What is Test to Release and how does it work?

What is Test to Release and how does it work?

TTR – also knowns as the Test to Release for International Travel scheme – is a way to reduce your self-isolation time when arriving back in England. If you choose to use it, you can take a private test (paid-for) from a Government-approved provider after 5 days of self-isolation, and if it comes back negative, you can stop self-isolating.
As part of the scheme, you’ll also need to complete a Government Passenger Locator Form too.

How much does the test cost?

£95 – for a gentle, painless swab test with our Test to Release fast-track service. Postage is free and there are no hidden costs. Shop here.

Is the test suitable for children?

Absolutely. MyHealthChecked tests are gentle and safe for all ages.

When will I receive my test?

You can order a test before you leave the UK, but MyHealthChecked can ONLY despatch the test on Day 4, ready for you to take on Day 5.

When can I take my test?

Test to Release has specific rules about when you can take a test. You can only take a test 5 days after you get home, this is because it takes time for the virus to incubate and show on a test.

How do I activate my Test to Release test?

You must purchase a Test to Release test kit, our other COVID tests won’t work for Test to Release.
We want to make sure your Test to Release is processed as quickly as possible, so you will need to ensure you select the correct option on the Activate your test page and retain the order number for activation.

How long will the process take?

You can only sample on Day 5 of self-isolation and will need to send your sample to our labs in Manchester, meaning you should get your result on Day 6 of self-isolation.
Test results are usually same-day from receipt of sample, but we guarantee results available within 24-48 hours from receipt at our lab.

How do I get my results?

We’ll send you an email to let you know when your results are ready – then you simply log into the secure section of this website.

Are you a Government Approved Test to Release provider?

Yes, of course. We are a Government-approved Test to Release partner – and you can learn more about Trust & Safety at MyHealthChecked here.

What countries are eligible for Test to Release?

The guidelines change regularly, so it’s best to check on the GOV.UK website TTR pages here.

I’m self-isolating in a hotel – can you send the test kit there?

That’s fine. We can send your test kit wherever you are self-isolating as long as it is a mainland UK address.

Am I allowed to post the test when I’m self-isolating – I thought I had to stay home?

You are allowed to leave the house to post your test. According to GOV.UK: “You may leave your house to post your test or to travel directly to and from the testing site. You should follow safer travel guidance and avoid public transport if possible.”

Can’t I just use a normal MyHealthChecked PCR test?

Unfortunately not. Because of the special process – where we are only allowed to release your test kit on Day 4 of your self-isolation, ready for you to take on Day 5 – you cannot use a ‘regular’ test.

Do you do family packs for Test to Release?

Unfortunately not. Because of the special process, we can only release Test to Release tests as single units.

Do the swabs hurt?

No – they are gentle and painless. Find out more on the how to use your test page here.

What happens if I test positive for COVID-19?

You’ll need to follow the regular self-isolation rules. There’s information on the GOV.UK test-to-release page here.
