Leaving the UK: how to prepare?

Updated on 6th December 2021

All passengers must take a PCR COVID-19 test no more than 1 day before travelling to the USA- regardless of vaccination status.

Fully vaccinated travellers

If you are fully vaccinated arriving in the USA you most present a negative COVID-19 test no more than 3 days before travelling. USA accepts the PCR Fit-to-Fly tests or the Rapid Antigen test which must have a real time verification service.

The USA accepts any COVID-19 vaccine approved by the FDA or the World Health Organisation, these are: AstraZeneca, BIBP/Sinopharm, Covishield, Janssen, Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac vaccines. The USA also considered those travellers who are part of AstraZeneca or Novavax vaccine trials as fully vaccinated.

Non-fully vaccinated travellers

Most travellers that are non-fully vaccinated will need to complete a COVID-19 test no more than one day before travelling or prove to the airline that they have recovered from COVID-19 in the last three months. Please note unvaccinated entry permission only applies to: US citizens or travellers with an exception, US Nationals and USA Lawful Permanent Residents.

No test requirement for children aged under 2 years old.

Before travelling or transiting into the USA, all travellers must obtain a VISA or an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) visa waiver.

Please note that it is your responsibility to check what is required by your airline and destination country, and are clear on the timings before you purchase.
